Default my 225 vs. 96 Trans Am

my bro-n-law owns a 96 pontiac Trans am. that thing is a monster. He says it has a littleless then 300hp but i think he's bullsh*t'n me...i think he has about 350hp...He's all about american muscle... he asked me if my car "wines up"...lol..that bastard... He challenged me to a 1/4 mile at a track here in jersey. He wants to bet $300. My 225 is stock. I might be getting a revo chip pretty soon. My question is, with the chip... do i have a chance? im a pretty good driver so take that into consideration... thanks

Stock TT vert vs. a Chevy 350 Trans Am in the 1/4 mile...I'm thinking not a chance. Maybe if you had a roll on with the turbo spooled....and that's a big maybe.

I was going to say no chance.

A quick lookup showsit onlyruns a 14.3 1/4 mi.
TT's can runmid 14's with a chip.(Right?)

I wouldn't count on beating him, but it's possible with a good launch and reaction on your part.

But that's only if he's stock. Which you say he isn't. So I wouldn't waste my money, or dignity.

I Love my 225 TT, and it isn't even stock anymore; but I believe he'd eat my lunch. Unless he's a terrible driver.
Then again, I can't get mine to launch with any quickness. It feels like the EPC takes over and gives it a slow roll start every single time... unless I just dump the clutch which I refuse to do for fear of destroying my clutch/xmsn/haldex. I've triedlaunching ateverywhere from 3k to 5500 RPM and still; when I let off the clutch and give it gas... its like the car slows first... then gets up and goes once it's damn well ready. From a roll... Im on it though. lol. I'd do it just for fun... but I def. wouldn't put money on it or talk up my car prior to the run.

yea i was thinking pretty much the same... i've been talking alot if trash too... like "ur car would probably run out of gasbefore it crosses the finish line"... but the reality is i should loose... i'll race him anyway.... but not for $300... i'll do it for 10 bucks! when it happens i'll record it and show u guys...

If it is a trans am, and not modded, then he is telling you the truth the LT1 in there has ~280hp. Its a pretty big and heavy car, you could hang if you were chipped i would imagine, but realistically, I think you would need a pretty awesome run, and him having a kinda crappy one to take him. That car was made for the 1/4 mile, they dont even have miles where the TT was made.

sorry to say, but you'll get smoked.... challenge him to a 50ft race and you'll have a different story.

I have no clue what any of them are talking about.... NOt only were the lt-1's ALL slow I have Both lt-1 and Ls1 Camaros the ls1 which was avilable from 98- My first 3 runs at the track with 1.85 60fts were 14.01 13.9 14.2 @ 103 mph the lt-1 is a dogg... MOst will run very high 14's in the quarter... 275 hp doesnt go very far whgen the car weighs almost 3900 pounds. YOU should have no problem beating a stock lt-1 with a Chip.
