hey, i have an 01 tt 1.8 fwd 180 i just ordered my new timing belt (have 98k) and a new clutch, and new 3inch downpipe and borla exhaust... but back to the point i figured i could just yank the motor out threw the top for an easier clutch and timing belt install but according to my chilton book for my gti i had you cant pull a 1.8 threw the top is it possible or??? any advice or tips would be great thanks

ANd you're starting this at 1am? I believe you have to pull it from the bottom. Sounds like you're gonna have your hands full of fun!

most people take the front bumper and radiator out to remove the engine. Im sure thats what your book is telling you also.

You can use these to help

so if i remove the front bumper and rad i can get it out from up top?

you will pretty much pull it up and forward.

would it also be advisable to go ahead and remove the hood? it'll make manuevering the engine out a lot easier. .02.

Mine was removed from the bottom. - But I paid a shop.

This might be bad.... started the tear down tonight and saw that when i took the hose from the intake to intercooler off there was a small pool of oil in the intercooler... whats that all about? turbo shot? rings?
