New To Forum EPC check engine info
Good evening, new to the forum I purchased a 2000 TT 1.8 Quattro last july from its original owner car is in fantastic shape this evening on way home the car suddenly slowed down and then shut down the dash display had the yellow check engine light lit and to the left the "EPC" light was lit.I checked all the basics oil water etc. but could not get her to fire up about 1/2 hr later tried again and she fired up and ran smooth all the way home.does anyone know what this may be ? As I stated not to familiar with the mechanics of the vehicle so anyhelp is appreciated. Also I know I should be bringing to the local Audi dealer (25 miles away) should it be towed even though she is running now?
If you have an AutoZone nearby, run in there and get the codes scanned from the ECU. Post them here and we'll help you diagnose the problem.
Otherwise try to find someone near you with VAG-COM to scan the codes. You can look them up here... VAG Tool Locator. Most will do it for a beer or 12.

Steve, Thanks contacted a local AZ and will be stopping by tommorrow to have them get me the data.He did mention one thing said they had to forewarn me that something could short out or blow a fuse when doing Is this something that normally would occur or is it just AZ covering themselves. Again thanks for your response.

this happened to me lastweek(ish). I think it was a boost issue.
the epc light comes on from the engine being off.....
there are a number of different things that could have caused this though. as stated go to an autozone and scan it to see if anything comes up. Only problem with that is if your CEL is not on the actron scanners az has will not read anything. the best bet is to locate someone near you with a vag-com cable.
OH! and if you shut ur car off for a minute, turn it back on and it runs fine is was prob just a fluke.
make sure you are letting your car warm up all the way before letting is see any boost.
ANOTHER OH! you wont blow a fuse from a scanner being plugged in. if you have an aftermarket radio turn it all the way off before pluggin the actron scanner in.
good luck

As "slow" said, AZ may have a tough time diagnosing anything without an active CEL.
THANKS EVERYONE,
located a shop that had a VAG he gave me the code turned out to be a speed sensor.I actually found one at the local VW dealership and will be installing over the weekend. Thanks again all.nice to know there is intelligent life out there.
