New guy with questions
Hi Im new here and new to Audis and have a few questions on the TT. My 318ti is falling apart and the TT looks like a great replacement. Ive heard of the TT having a few problems, like the turbo not lasting much past 100k and bad starters and ignition coils, but is there anything else that needs a lot of attention? Also what are the most common mods that you guys are doing to these cars? Im very interested in a big turbo upgrade but coming from BMW I dont know much about turbos and turboed cars other then the basics. Can VW 1.8T parts be used on the Audi 1.8t? So what are the ups and downs of the TT and what kind of mods will get me the best performance cheaply? Thanks, I know I should have searched first but those never work.
I just bought my TT so I am rather new myself to the TT world. I have always wanted one but I had to wait for the price to drop on them a little before I took the plunge. If you do get one I would get the 225HP model. The biggest horsepower increase for the least amount of money is a chip uprade from probably either APR www.goapr.com or Revo Technik www.revotechnik.com. Both of companies offer substantial gains for about $500. That is the next mod I am doing on my car for sure. APR has big turbo upgrades but they are fairly pricey. The GT28 uprade is about $7000 but it makes 383HP according to APR's website.
The TT has some more maintainance than I am used to doing on a car. The timing belt has to be replaced at 60K miles (i just did mine) and also the Haldex fluid for the AWD needs to be changed I believe every 20K I believe. I love my car though and I am glad I got it. It isnt a very common car, at least where I live anyway. So I get quite a few looks in it. I debadged it so it really throws the locals off. Whenever I get gas or stop somewhere, someone will come up to me, look at, and ask me what it is.
I dont think you will find very many parts for a VW that will work on a TT unless you get a FWD TT. The quattro (especially the 225) has unique parts from the VeeDubs. I found this out when I was looking for a 3" downpipe, and an intake, and everything else haha. Good luck...hope I helped a little, I am not a pro yet in the world of TT's

Well I guess you guys have a better system then the BMW sites, the searches there never work, even when you type in the exact title of the thread. Sorry.

Well I will have to see about that. Since my BMW is a 318 the TT will defneitly blow it away. For other BMW models mabye not. Im planning to always have a BMW even if I buy a Audi. But I would say the Audi sedans could probably kick the *** of most BMW sedans. Basically I see these two companies at the same level.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think they both look great and wouldnt say the tt is way better then the Z4. But I dont think anyone anywhere would deny that the tt is a near perfect design. The tt is one of those instant classics that dosnt come along very often. I like the tt because of the great balance of luxury, design, performance, and AWD for all year use. Perfect sports car?
