Default New model?

I was watching a Top Gear episodehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5seNcqLqPkw&feature=related) and Jeremy said that they made a new model of the TT. When did they start making the new model?

2008 is the new model year. I feel that it isn't an improvement, stylistically, at least. It's nice and all, but it has more common design elements with current cars than the MKI does, so it loses some of its uniqueness.

ditto that.

Its stylish, but personally, I dont think its better than the MkI. Pretty sure it's got the same pedal set as the new Passat too, if that's the case, that's just sad.

Man are you guys wrong about that I have had the old and now the new and all aspects mechanically are better, the steering is better, the suspension is better, and the 2.0T engine is better. Its lighter and with a chip has 220 whp/270wtq and is just under 3000 lbs. Probably 0 - 60 in 5.7 with the chip, way faster than the 180 and up there with the 225. Even tho it has the same engine as the VW, Audi has done things like make the compression higher for more power. The looks are IMO better and the interior is classier looking. I loved my MK1 but the MK2 is awesome. The only thing it doesnt have over the MK1 is that it isnt as dramatic different looking like the MK1 was when it came out. But this is just my opinion and you know what they say about those, everyone has one.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I don't believe anyone trashed the new model. What was said, and I agree, is that the new style isn't as appealing as the MK1. I hope they have improved the mechanics because they certainly had enough issues to work on.

MKII's styling was evolutionary

... but MKI's styling was revolutionary.

other than that, the MKII is better all around~

Yeah, I agree that the MKII is lighter, and probably faster, etc. I never mentioned that, though :P

I just think that the MKI is a much more unique looking vehicle. With the MKII, Audi decided to look like everyone else, instead of making an even more unique design. It's still a nice looking vehicle, regardless.

I think what it is now is that everyone is trying to look like the TT, starting with the MK1, which of course stole it from Porsche, but now everyone wants the TT look. Like I said I loved my MK1 and still do but I like the new style better for me. Maybe cuz Im older, I dont know.

MKI was the insperation for the 350z and crossfire... I don't think MK II is going to inspire anything. It's a nice car, but it's not going to have the same impact as when MK I came out. Great car, but more of a daily driver then sports car now (compared with other new sports car: z4, 350z, lotus, ect)
