New TT owner w/? about chk eng light
Hey,
always loved the TT and finally boughta nice black,2000, Quatro 180with 59K on it.
Well, I don't have much time to drive it but had an opportunity to take a quick trip in it.
I ran it out of fuel as the gauge stops dropping at 1/2 tank. I should have done the math, seemed I was getting great milage or had a giant gas tank. Once I was sitting on the side of the highway I looked at the manual and did the math. OOPS! How obvious with the computer showing most of the info as I'm driving.
Anyway, once I put fuel in the check engine light came on.
I drove the rest of the trip with light on thenstored it for 2 weeks, drove it about 40 miles (light still on) stored itanother 2 weeks then finally got to drive ithome (8 hour trip). When I started it for the trip home the light went out.
I stopped for fuel and hit the on ramp at a pretty good clip running to 6 grand in 2nd and 3rd then settled into the 80mph cruise home, the light came on again. Also seems to be down on power which the manual says it'll do when light is on.
I'm not sure if anyone here can get the codes as there is no Audi dealer in this town and the VW dealer won't touch it.
I talked to the dealer in Sioux Falls and he expected the light to go out so when it did as he predicted I skipped a side trip to their service dept.
I'm pretty sure I put thefuel cap on tight asI know that used to effectaCherokee I had.
I'm also running at least 91 octane.
Anyone have an idea on what is causing this or have to correct a similar problem?

I get that sometimes when I put old or bad fuel in it, try to run it as low as you can then add some good clean 93, you may have to clear the code buy disconecting the battery for about 10 to 15 min. but make sure you have your radio code, and talk with bmwtoaudi, its nice to have a fellow TT owner help you out.
Thanks,
well, yesterday I went to 2 local (Rapid City) shops.
First one didn't have equipment to read codes and the second couldn't get me in until Monday.
Well, when I left the second shop the light went out.
So, I fueled it again with 91 at Exxon and finally got to take it on some of my favorite roads in the hills.
I ran it pretty hard and the light stayed out this time.
It also seemed the harder I ran it the better she seemed to run.
I suspect some carbon buildup. This thing had been babied.
We have a few stations with 94 octane I ocasionally run in my bike, I'll try that next time.
I'll be asking more questions as they come up and should be able to meet up in Sioux Falls at some point as I live near Rapid and drive OTR out of Iowa.
