Newbi Question: Help
Hi Guys,
I am a new owner of a 2002 TT ALMS which the previous owner has done some work on and which I plan to pick up where he left off. Here are my questions to all you more knowledgeable people :
1) I know the car was chipped, what I do not know is what kind and what level, if there are even "levels" or "types" of chips. Any way I can find that out easily?
2) I want to do an APR package that my local shop can hook up. So, can you chip a car AND do the APR thing or is it one or the other or are they essentially the same? Do I have to de-chip this thing and then APR it?
3) Will I notice any difference in power if I do the APR thing and still have a chip?
Sorry but again, I am a newbi so I am still figuring all of this out, thanks in advance.
Alex

1) There is essentially no way to know what program your ecu isrunning, however they all make pretty much the same power so I'ts not a big issue.
2) It depends on what APR 'package' you are reffering to. If it is the stage III turbo upgrade then yes it will work in conjunction with a chip, but APR will probably recommend thier tuning which is included.
3) again it depends on what particularly you have in mind from APR, thier catalog is pretty extensive. But gerenrally speaking yes you will feel a combined power gain.
Good luck with your new project. Before you get ahead of yourself though make sure you've taken care of all necessary maintenance. Oil, Haldex and such. And if youre at 60K+miles its also a good idea to go ahead and have your waterpump and timing belt replaced.

Well, I was thinking of the APR ECU upgrade, the 93 octane chipped version, but I'm thinking isn't that similar to what I already have if the car was "chipped?"
What package would you suggest going with if I didn't want to touch the actual turbo?
Thanks again for any advice.

azaky,
If the previous owner told you that he/she had 'chipped' the car then most likely the ECU has been reprogrammed already. If you pay money for the APR 93 octane program you would essentially be wasting your money, unless you just prefer the piece of mind.
As for packages, if you are looking for some more power and assuming you don't have these already, go with the basics. In particular APR offers exhaust systems for the TT that will give you a nice push in the right direction. If your car has been chipped, it would also be a good idea to look into picking up a new diverter valve, Forge motorsports offers a good aftermarket part for this. The stock diverter valve in a 'chipped' TT doesn't really hold the higher boost pressures as well as the aftermarket valves do. Also, some of the guys here have said the TTDA and VTDA intake systems are a good upgrade for after your chip, you can find those online at Modshack. I'll let some of the other guys point you at the more in depth features, as I'm somewhat new to this scene.

Azaky: I'd ask the original owner for a receipt of the work that has been done.
If one cannot be furbished at least ask which mods were done and by which company.
DenimTT: Is that the same car off of tirerack? They look very similar, but nice job none the less!

Yes, it is. Good eye, and thank you for the compliment. It has a few touches: Tint, brakes, lowered, spolier(which tirerack doesnt have for some reason?) and I flipped it horizontally. A concept of what I'd like my car to ultimately look like, nothing flashy.

But yeah I like the animation, did you do that in go live?
