Default newbie/Intake?

I was just wondering if the K&N 57-0479 series intake is a bad idea for an intake?

you should just pull out the stock and put a modshak vtda in. Easy install, 30 minutes max.

any large k&n will breathe better than the box. thats all you really need to help your car breathe.

$300??? I only paid $250 shipped. I'm not saying that the K&N CAI is bad, but there really isnt any kind of sheilding from hot engine air. Plus i dont know how much they are but like I just wrote, you could get the modshack vtda for $250 and it can come painted a few different ways which looks pretty cool. Check out the website www.modshack.info he's got a couple products for the TT that are pretty sweet, dont hesitate to call Steve to ask him questions, he's a nice guy.

I really want to see someone post some ait graphs showing me that pulling in "engine heat" from a unprotected filter that goes threw a compressor and through an intercooler is so much hotter than a intake that is shielded from engine heat. Then this to me would justify spending $250-300 for a intake.

I believe that the airflow is far more important than a cover for a filter.
