self bumpage-do you think I will need vag-com to makethe new ecu happy, or should I just be able to plug it in (once i manage to pull the old) and then do the whole turn the key and let the ecu learn throttle positions etc and start it up?

If they are the same code, it should be able to automatically learn your car as you mentioned above. As for removing the current ECU box, it takes a pair of very small hands, lots of wiggling, and alot of patience. It helps to remove the passenger wiper to get your hand in there.

Thanks for the heads up. The passenger side wiper I got off, the driver side is stuck like a mother. There is nothing holding the ecu in place besides the two cables and the passenger side clip right? Should I pull it towards the front of the car in a straight line?

doesnt the immobilizer data have to match the ecu to start the car. you usually have to flash the ecu at the dealer to install an new immobilizer/ dash dispaly. so this is the same case but you are bringing the ecu to the car not a new immobilizer to the ecu.

I dont know, but I dont really want to immobilize my ride. If it wont work after I hook it up, will it un-imobilize :-P if I hook the native ecu back up? If any af members have swapped ecu's successfully I would appreciate the perspective.

what years the car? If its a 00-01, there shouldnt be a problem. The 02+ imm2 needs more work and need a secret key number.

My car is an 01 tt 225as is the donor car, my ecu and the one I bought both have the same model # 8N0906018K . As you typically are, hoping you are right, as far as "plug-and play". I'll certainly post an update either way. It will get here Friday, unfortunately my DV probally wont for another few after that, but maybe between now and then I can get the friggin ECU pulled, got those cables off and the tab pulled but that thing does not want to budge.

if you head over to ross-tech.com, you can find some info there about the swap. Im now considering doing a swap from my crappy ATC ecu to a 02+ VW 1.8t AWP ecu. I will then need a new ecu or the previous owner have the skn. The reason for this is so i can run a large memory ecu and have it controlled by a wideband o2 sensor. THis makes for a much better tune when i go BT since im not wanting a full ems yet.

wow, thanks for that advice. that sounds straight forward but like a huge pia. I am going to try to find out if my car has an immobilizer 2 or 3 or neither so I can know what I am going to need to do for this, including finding someone with vag com who is somewhat local
