okay, gotta stupid noob question here

What does it mean to flash your ecu? Also when getting a chip do i risk any engine damage, as in do i need any other parts to compliment it? I am just looking to put on a few mods to my TT but who knows i could get the need for speed ( i know, that was gay)

With most chips they will work fine on a completely stock TT. I know with the APR chip it is safe to run stock, others I'm not positive on but I'm sure someone will chime in with the answer to that.

A chip is a good, safe start. Good bang for your buck.

To Flash your ECU you need a chair, a beer, and a marker.

1.remove your ECU from the car.
2. Draw eyes on your ECU.
3. Stand your ECU up on the chair and place the beer next to it. If you're ugly give the ECU a few more beers.
4. Stand in front of the ECU and pull your pants down.
5. That's it! Enjoy your Flashed ECU!

When referred to on this site people mean the same thing and are usually talking about Unitronics, GIAC, APR, REVO, or some of the other less used brands.
The newer ECU's have memory space, so they can be flashed with the program and have it stored in the ECU.
The older ECU's have less memory, so in order toprogram them a chip needs to be soldered onto the ECU with the program information.

Same ending, different paths.
That's the basic idea.

chips are fine, just look out for a diverter valve once you get the chip... sometimes those like to give you a little headache post chipping/flashing.

follow the FAQ on starting out such as, chip/dv/intake and then into a boost gauge and exhaust. thats generally a good route to take

When I was a TT newb, I packed my ECU full of Doritos. Shows how much I knew. Where were you then Chris?

If you would have asked me then I probably would have told you doritos are good, but cool ranch is better than nacho cheesier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ep0leGYj4 = AWESOME.

And I think the spicy nacho is the best.
