Default One headache gone.

Took the intake mani off today, cleaned all the oily crap out from under it, plummed the oil pressure gauge, and tore all that BS PCV crap out of the car. I have my vac line for the brake booster, FPR, and N249 related stuff (that'll come off eventually as well). Coming from the block, I have one -10 line fit to the 034 block breather adapter, running to my catch can. Tomorrow the valve cover comes off, I'll cut off the barbed fitting the stock breather clamps to, weld on a AN weld bung, and run the other line to my catch can. Also need to make a bracket to hold the catch can. Looks like theres a threaded hole on the frame half of the drivers side motor mount that would be otherwise unused. I'll probably make something of a pedestal that bolts to that, and the can will sit somewhat under my turbo inlet hose.

Pics? nope, sorry. Probably when its all tied together, but covered in grease to my elbows and somewhat concentrated on what im working on, the camera is usually left aside.

Car has been giving me trouble lately on startup, I'd blame it on the crappy condition of all the hoses and whatnot. We'll see how big, if any, an improvement is in about 10 minutes when I drive home.

Oh, I also cut myself a USRT style throttle body plate for the water/meth. One difference, the side I was planning to mount the nozzle on has a wall thickness almost half of what the rest is. That puts my nozzle about .125" (eighth inch) from the inside wall. I feel the spray pattern will benefit rather than have it spray down a long tapped hole before it opens into the manifold. Need longer bolts before I can install. Whats the USRT come with? I was thinking of using M6x75 bolts, my spacer plate is about .525" thick.

Anyway, I smell like that creepy old dude that digs thru the dumpsters of the business next to us, and then tells me that I should get locks on our dumpster, because people from Milton (a few miles away) are coming and dumping their garbage in our dumpsters.
I dont want to smell like him, so I'm gonna go testdrive the car, ending with a shower (or dip in the lake). More to come tomorrow, with pics.

I owe someone pics of my kmac camber stuff anyway, so I'll get all that crap together tomorrow.

argh.

so, all that crap was a minor headache, and after relieving it, its like I turned around and walked into a nailgun.

Dressed up pretty snazzy today, going shopping for a sportcoat (had to dress nice to match the coat to my dress clothes). I get into town, checked out the mall, saw nothign decent, so went looking for a Mens Warehouse. About 4 minutes after leaving the mall, I accelerate from a stoplight for only a moment before the car lurches, and the EPC comes on. Happened to have vagcom in the car with me, checked codes, and it appears my throttle body just took a massive ****.

Now here I am, dressed up, and trying to poke around under the hood on a sunday afternoon with NO chance of even finding an open junkyard to get a replacement, and to make things even better, I'm supposed to drive back to NY tomorrow to meet my brother, so we can drive down to PA for the Audi driving experience.

goddamn cars....

what code was it for the throttle body? you said you recently had the intake mani off correct? I would first double check connections since more than likely you had all the TB stuff disconnected at the same time as the mani.

Not SAI delete, PCV delete. All that crap was dependant on me finishing the car today, not screwing around with a F'd up throttle body.

I took the throttlebody apart, was gonna test the potentiometers for proper resistance sweep, but needed 3 hands to do it. Threw it all back together, and planned to limp it to a friends house nearby, and the car ran fine the whole way.

Either, knocking a tiny bit of dirt loose from the contacts fixed the problem while it was apart, or reconnecting everything a 5th time finally did the trick, or maybe it was the 8th throttle body adaption. Dunno. Gonna go drive a bunch tonight and make sure the issue doesnt come back.

I had a total of 3 codes relating to it, main one was 'throttle plate controller malfunction' there was also something similar, but posted as intermittent. Last one was throttle body adaption failed/incomplete.

I'll go home and change quick (unless you wanna see me sporting the Cash 'Man in Black' look), get pics of whats in there, and what I tore out, and then im gonna drive a bit. Probably to Hooters, its been a couple days since I've eaten there.

You cant just remove and plug the PCV stuff like you can the SAI stuff. A catchcan is a start, but you'll need to make/buy a fitting to adapt to where the stock piece was removed.

Heres my catchcan.

Baffle, then filled with stainless wool (kitchen scouring pads)

And installed (mostly)

The fitting in place. This came from 034motorsports, and I bought a -10 adapter to go with it.

If I was thinking I would have bought a 90 degree fitting for the braided hose, but I didnt, and the straight I used is a little cramped.

Heres the old stuff I pulled out. The fat part is what was replaced by the 034 fitting. This crap sits under the manifold in roughly the same orientation, and that breather tube is just to the left of the oil filter bracket.

Heres the fitting you'll need to go this route. The fitting is 3/4 NPT, Options are -10 or 12 adapters for AN fittings.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

Oh, the barbed fitting from the old stuff goes to manifold vacuum (fitting under manifold), the cut hose above that goes to the 'Z' looking hose that sits on the end of the manifold (manifold vac again).

The fitting on the underside should be plugged.
The fitting on the end of the manifold (and remember, this is for a 225) needs a little more attention. That line Tees, and is split between the brake booster, and the PCV crap. You need to make sure you use/reuse the checkvalve on that end, it's related to the brake booster portion. The line going to the PCV stuff should be plugged.
