Default One more strange sound

Hi, I have a '01 225 TT and I keep hearing a strange sound from what sounds like the driver side front wheel. It's hard to explain, like a whum, whum, whum, whum, whum. that increases or decreases with the speed of the car but not related to engine rpm. I notice it most when deccelerating and if I take it out of gear. It isn't really that loud but it's just worrying me as it does seem to be getting gradually worse. I took it in and got the wheels balanced but it's still there. there isn't any physical indication of anything just the sound.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Yeah, that's what I was wondering/hoping it was. Should be a relatively cheap and easy replacement.

Thanks!!!

That or you need new tires, that was my problem with that noise. First Diagnosed as a wheel bearing later to find out it was the tires.

Is there any easy way to tell whether it is the tires or the bearings? Because I can't think of anything.
