Unhappy Oscillates on light snow

My first drive in my '01 TT Quattro in the snow went HORRIBLY wrong today.
I'm currently self medicating my PTSD (no disrespect meant for those legitimately diagnosed). One of the reasons I wanted a Quattro was the all season capability, even though it's a roadster. I have a 20 mile each way commute and have been doing so for 20 years, in all manner of vehicles and in WAY worse conditions. Temp was in the teens F, and whatever calcium/salt solution the local gov. uses seemed to be doing reasonably well. If the road was even lightly dusted with snow (which most of my route was), the car would waggle back and forth, no matter what speed or input (or lack thereof). I had to bail on my job and creep home with my hazards on. I've never experienced anything like it. The tires are the first thing to blame obviously, Continental Contisport Contact, with more than half the tread remaining I was told they were recently installed when I bought the car last May, and have put less than 2k mi. on the TT. The traction aids SEEMED to be functioning, no warning lights. I will NOT be taking the car out of the garage until the roads are clear. This experience as really f****d me up.

I had a similar experience with my '08 A6q on a wet dirt road. Someone mentioned turning off the DSP system to allow full time all wheel drive. Could this have been the issue?

The only option I had was to turn off the "ASR", which made no difference.
