overheating in traffic
My 2001 tt 225 quattro had been overheating in traffic for about the last 2 or 3 years. The only remedy was to turn on the a/c to get the electric fans running. I had my oil changed this week and my mechanic said my inline auxilliary water pump was leaking. Apparently, it also wasn't working and in fact was probably restricting the coolant flow. Now, with a new one in place, I can't seem to get the temperature gauge to go above normal in stop and go situations. Anyone with similar problems might want to check that auxilliary water pump.
one more thing. My clutch had begun to slip, and I was dreading the expense of having it replaced. Since replacing the leaking inline water pump, my clutch has been fine. My mechanic says it is entirely possible that coolant was getting on the clutch.
