Default Painted engine cover?

I have been looking at a few pics of all different types of TT's and I am wondering what everyone used to paint their engine covers. Ecstuning is selling a whole carbon fiber set for the 225 but I really dont want to spend 500 bucks on it. So I am thinking of maybe painting mine silver and black, but I dunno. I tried it once on a old car that I had and it didnt turn out too well.... any pointers? What kind of paint to use? Prep work? Stuff like that? Thanks!

I was amazed to see the engine cover paint job in this Fotki page:

http://public.fotki.com/blackfnTTruc...over_painting/

I have aBachelors of Arts degree and work as a graphic artist and I don't think I would attempt to do it.

All you need to do is some light sanding, tape off what you dont want painted, and use some regular rattle can car paint. Its just that simple, hell if theTTkid just did it, why cant you?!

Anyone tried the Krylon Fusion, made for plastics? Wondering how well it would hold up.

works great on my wheels, but thats on bare metal.

and like i said in the 2 threads, dupla-color works great and you dont have to worry about it flaking or anything.

Krylon Fusion is designed for plastic, mainly stuff that flexes as it won't crack/flake easily. (works great on quad fenders). It'd probalby work fine under the hood, I'd just make sure everything was well degreased before you got started, or no paint you use is gonna stick well.

Mine was not $300 - it was more - lol
But IMO, worth it

Regardless, painting is always cheaper, and I have seen many that look incredible.
Just take your time and be careful!
