Is this purchase worth it?
I was thinking about getting a 2002 Audi TT (AWD 180HP Coupe) from Carmax. It has 60k miles and they are charging just shy of 16,000. I asked a mechanic friend that works there and he said that they already replaced the timing belt and gave the car a decent tune up. If I do get it, I do intend on getting the 2 year warranty for $1,500. Main problem is that I drive around 80 miles to and from work... 80 miles 5 times a week quickly adds up... I've searched around for a better deal but the best I've found was an 01 TT with 80k miles for $15k...
How long do you think the TT will last considering the mileage I intend to put on it? If all goes according to plan, I'll only have to drive 40 miles to my new job in a year or so.

That price seems high, but thats what you get from dealers. I would try to find one from a private seller or negotiate the one from carmax down. Mk1 TT's should have lower pricing now that the new ones are out. Don't be scared of that mileage, keep up with timing belt and other scheduled maintainence and you will be fine, I'm @ 112k and going strong.
I just told another guy this through PM...
WIDEN YOUR SEARCH AREA!
Don't hesitate to drive 500 miles to get a car.
If nothing else it's a good way to get to know the car, and if it breaks on the way home it's obviously going to be covered by the dealer.
I drove 4.5 hours each way to get my car because it was exactly what I wanted.
I bought my 2003 225 hp Quattro with low miles a year ago for $18k. And even then (for a car a year newerAND before the new model came out) it wasn't exactly anawesome deal.

I guess I'll keep on looking. I've literally been to over 50+ dealer sites within 300 miles of 20876 and all the prices seem to be 20k+. I've never been to a traditional dealer so I'm not really sure how much I can talk them down to.
EDIT: Even harder given the fact that I want the coupe.

Are you kidding?
I went to autotrader, searched within 500 miles of you, and 250 TT's popped up for under $18k. A full page of them are under $15k, including this 2002 225hp ALMS coupe for $15k The ad even says financing available...

Has under 60k miles, costs $1k less, is the 225hp model, and is also a special edition TT.
PLUS... it's only25 miles from your Zip code.

^^nice car, and a good recommendation.
however that aint an ALMS. ALMS were either silver or red only.
the ad also lists it as an "s-line" car, which it is not. thats just a regular 225.
looks like someone put some work into it (quad exhaust tips? and bling grill).
other than the fact that it is listed wrong and missing a gear shift ****, it seems solid.
