Default Q- Front mount intercooler

I am very new to this forum as well as to Audi TT performance parts.. I'm a 5.0 Mustang guy, so... anyway, I recently purchased a 2000 Audi TT 1.8T 225 coupe and did some mild mods.. Neuspeed CAI, GFB Blow-off valve, N75R wastegate valve, APR Chipped ECU, all Forge Motorsports SAMCO silicone hoses, and Eisenmann Race muffler. The car pulls good!

My question is about Front Mount Intercoolers.. has anyone installed them? Forge Motorsports & APR makes their own but for that price? forget it.. around $1200 for some fins & tubes, noway.. I would very much appreciate it if someone can give me dimensions for their Forge or APR intercoolers.

PWR Performance of New Zealand makes quality intercoolers and they have a big sale. a Kiwi made intercooler for $250-$400 is a real steal deal! I need to retrofit one of those into my TT, now I know the inlet/outlet sizes are 2.5" but need help with length, width & height PLEASE!

and many thanks!

hmmm.. there's even more.. in addition to Forge & APR, there is OC.T, MTM, Neuspeed and others

comparing these photos of Forge & OC.T to the ones PWR make, I think it is either 27.75"x11.75 "x2.75 " or 27.25"x11"x2.87"

just eye-balling

Don't jump in yet.... tCarbon just came out with a FMIC kit for the 225 at $499 and they are working on the kit for the 180.

Well, they just came out with the 225 the first of the month. One of the guys there, Tyler, has a 180 and he wants an IC bad. I would imagine that they would have something around the first of the year. They were developing the 225 version over about a 4 month period.

Does the FMIC make that much temp differance?
the 225 has two intercoolers right? when you chip and your boost goes up do you get heat soak problems with the stock intercooler?

tCarbon FMIC

Thanks a lot!!

Forge Motorsports version is definitly longer than tCarbon's.. if your eyes can notice, the tCabon intercooler matches the size of the radiator and note the longer distance from the ends of the intercooler tubes to the inner ends of the headlights.. and then check the photo on this page which shows you (behind the grill) how the tubes in Forge intercoolers extend closer to the headlights - or you can see the Review link below the picture on this link and see how it protrudes outside the radiator area:

Let's wait for a test and see the results.

Thanks again.

Yes it does make a real difference.. they wouldn't sell it for $1100 otherwise

and when you car is chipped, you get heat soak problems.. I can even feel it in the A/C air when I step on gas.. it becomes a bit hot from the heat under the hood.

Just a heads up I saw that you said you were new here you may want to do some looking into blow off valves on the TT. Most everyone here agrees that you will want a new DV not a BOV. Just looking out. As far as the intercoolers yea let wait and see if we can get some numbers on these different intercoolers. I was thinking of getting a Forge but that is alot of money, if I can get one that does just as good for cheeper why not?

Hi. It is not actually a BOV, it's Hybrid (50% recylce, 50% blow off) and it works perfect.. it's been on service for a long time and no complaints from the previous owner. The brand is GoFastBits of Australia:

About the intercooler.. I think the guys in tCarbon made a very good effort, so let's give it a shot and two thumbs up.
