So what gives? I own a 1999 TT, but nearly ALL parts and accessories start at 2000. Same with downloadable manuals.

I live in Hungary and purchased the car here. It was also made in Hungary about 30 miles north of where I live. Is that part of the reason why it is unique?

Are there any differences between the 1999 and 2000 TT?

This isn't my first time addressing an issue like this. I also own a 1988 Yamaha FJ 1200. They imported them into the U.S. only from 1986-1987, then 1989-1996. So I have the same issue trying to find parts for my motorcycle! Only '87 and earlier or '89 and later.

Maybe it's just me?

 

Audi started shipments to the US with the 2000 model year, that's why our forums don't have any 1999 references. Europe got the car in 1999. I think it even came in late 2000 for us, so there are very few examples of that year. Model year 2001 may have the highest representation of all in the US, as it was a new and unique look. Sales dropped off pretty steadily every year after that.

So if I had an opportunity to ship my car back to the U.S. when I leave Hungary (who knows when), would it be a valuable item for resale purposes? Just curious.

 

I don't see where it would demand any premium over a US spec car. You may have some desirable features not on US cars though (Euro tail lights with amber signals [ours are all red], cubby by your left knee in the dash [not on US spec cars], metal binder OEM manual under the steering wheel [we have floppy manuals in the glove box], manually adjustable headlight leveling [not on US spec cars], "City Lights", etc.). If you find the right buyer, these specific "mods" could be worth a few dollars more (I have put most of these parts on my car after sourcing in Europe)...

 

Another question: Do the U.S. TT's have cup holders? Mine has NONE. I've owned 3 cars and a minivan here, and I have not seen a single cup holder yet.

Oh yeah, automatic transmissions practically do not exist here in Hungary unless you have a Mercedes. EVERYTHING is standard shift. I personally don't mind, but talk about not having options! I saw a Dodge Caravan here a few months ago (rather rare). I took a peek inside - sure enough... 5-speed stick.

 

does your 99 have a spoiler on it? There are articles written that the Mk I could become a collectors item, maybe mores so for the first year edition. Can't sell mine now for a fair value maybe in 20 years.
