Default rear tire wear

I have the typical inner wear issues on my rear tires. 2001 tt coupe 225 quattro. Should I get the Kmac half kit or the adjustable rear control arms, or both? What about replacing the stock bushings with polys?

I take it you're lowered. If not, just get it aligned.

It's my understanding that half kmac will work just fine if the lowering is not too severe, approx 1-1.5 inches. If more, you'll probably need full kmac.

if you go half, make sure you (or your mechanic) install them on the bottom, not top, to pull the wheels back in.

cheers

Then you need an alignment. As the TT is front wheel biased, the rears will usually last at least 2x longer than the fronts even with no rotation. there's no reason the rears should wear "inside" if properly aligned and not lowered. There is no "typical inner wear issues" with the TT.

cheers.

I've had it aligned several times and it is adjusted as far as it will go. As far as what I call 'typical tire wear', it seems I've read other posts where others have similar problems to mine. Any ideas, anyone?

Just another thought...any damage back there?

I'm on my 3d TT in the past 9 yrs. all have been stock or just slightly lowered (eibach springs) and I've never had inner tire wear issues. I too have read posts where guys have had problems, but only when significantly lowered and the camber is out and they fail to bring it back in with kmac or adjustable bars.

good luck running this down.

cheers

Default broken control arms

too much tire pressure on the rears maybe?

I just broke BOTH top and bottom rear driver's side control arms last Sunday on I-75 going through a construction zone in Tampa on my 2001 TT 225 Coupe! They were getting ready to pave and there was about a 2" lip between the lower asphalt section and the concrete overpass. When I hit it there was a 'crack' sound and shift in the steering wheel and a 'mushy' feeling in the steering.

Still drove it home at 60 mph the last 125 miles and then looked under the car. I saw only the lower one broken off as it was midnight but when I took off the wheel the next morning I found BOTH control arms were broken off, not the bolts tho.

I thought when it first happened that one of the steering shaft clamps or rack & pinion clamps broke because the steering wheel went immediately to 15 degrees off center but the car still went down the road straight with only a slight 'wobble' if I rocked the steering wheel left and right ever so slightly.

I WILL be keeping a car that would get me home on three wheels, lol.
