Thank you to Cincy for that.

Now how long should I let the car sit before messing around and swapping it in? Any tricks so I don't break the c-clamp?

If you're looking at your engine. Its next to the lower left corner of your engine cover. There's a pic on here somewhere. Its to the right of your fpr

Just swapped in the green top sensor. Piece of cake. Took the airbox out (well half out) so I'd have more room. Ran the car about 5mins after to check for leaks. Looks all good.

So I'm sorta proud of myself when I do things like this. I know its just small stuff but its better than paying the dealership $$$$ to do it for me.

Now the "glass half empty" guy in me is wondering if this doesn't fix my overheating problem whats the next step? Took a look at my Audi bill when they did the timing belt and they replaced the thermostat then also.

Took the car out for a ride and monitored engine temp w/ the HVAC. stayed at a steady90/91 deg C while moving. got back in the garage and let it run for a few minswhile i got out and checked to see if the radiator fans were running. They weren't. Stood on the gas to about 3k rpms for a few mins and watched temp rise to 104 deg C. still no radiator fans. took it for a spin around the neighborhood and cooled it back down to 90.

so diagnose my problem now.. woulda ya please?

Sounds like either the fans are bad or something else that controls them is out. No CEL??
