Default Removing the catalytic converters on a TT?

Hello all, just wanted to inquire about removing the cats on the 1.8T 180HP TT...

I want to remove the resonator, and I was thinking about removing the cat while I'm at it.

Has anyone had any success with this? Does the car run as expected (better) ?

I noticed that APR makes an A4 exhaust that removes the last cat, so I don't believe this would really be too much of a problem for the ECU... let me know! Thanks!

**EDIT: and my hot, sexy fiance who I'm on the phone with insists that I say hello all!**

I don't know much about this topic.
But I do know that if in your State you have to get an inspection, without a CC your car will fail.
Just my 2 cents that you probably already knew [:-]

Hah, in my state you can drive a lawnmower and you won't get a ticket for emissions.

I know, Florida is great!

Ah, well, I think I'm going to do it, as long as there are no 02 sensors past the last cat, why not? (*note* at the time of this post, I have not determined if there is an 02 sensor past the cat or not).

Anybody with experience on these cats can feel free to set me straight if I'm wrong. If nothing else, I'll keep you posted!

Ah, yes, to be specific about bypassing the cat, because I still want the car to be emissions legal, after I test the car with no cat and, assuming a positive result, I'm going to invest in an electronically-actuated diverter valve that will free up travel through a bypass pipe welded along-side the cat. This way, at the push of a trendy looking red button (right next to my other trendy looking red buttons for I/C water spray and engine start), I'll be able to 'sport' up the car's sound and throttle a bit.

you don't get an O2 sensor past the catalyst, there are 2 in the system which have to remain in the system in order to send the correct signal to the ECU of course there are ways round that like that like the O2 simulator ( no emissions laws you lucky sod ) if it was so strict in the UK my catalyst would be off

I've never had the pleasure of working on the TT so I could be wrong about the aft O2 sensor but haven't seen it set up that way before

Ah, excellent! I've known some vehicles to have sensors after the cats, so to hear that I can remove these without tripping an 02 is nice
