Default Is it safe...

Well when i bought my tt, it came on 18" 18 x 7.5 Drag DR9 wheels. I would really like to use spacers to widen them to be flush or somewhat flush to the fender, but since they are so narrow, the offset calculator says i would need 36mm front spacers and 42 mm rear. H and R offers spacers so i could get 35mm front an 40 mm rear, but i have a few questions.

1. first of all. ive only seen up to the max of 25mm on cars, and wondering. is 35mm+ SAFE?

2. someone said to keep the same size spacers front and rear. Would having one larger than the other cause problems?

and finally

3. would it even be worth it to get 35mm an 40mm, or just deal with the wheels being so far in the wheel wells that it bothers me and just wait to get newer wheels?

35 and 40mm spacers to make the tires flush.... are you driving on donuts??

a 25 in the rear should easily put it flush

personally, i'd sell the rims, and get wider ones. The TT isn't a drag car, its a twisty car. Wide tires and twistys are fun. Huge spacers like that wouldn't sit well with me, I'd hate to think of what might happen if for some reason, something let go.

also, i have no clue why someone would say to run the same size spacers front and back. I'm running 20mm rear, and 12mm front, and that puts the rims flush. If there was an issue of keeping the front and rear track the same width, even then it wouldn't make sense to use the same spacers, because obviously, the rear of the car is narrower than the front.

I can't be positive on the 9's. I'm running 18x8.5 rims, I'm pretty close to rubbing the inner fender when the wheel is at full lock. Stock ride height, 35mm offset on the rim, plus a 12mm spacer.

245/40-18, they're stretched just a tiny bit though, the 'rim saver' lip of the tire doesn't do a whole lot, and because of that, i have minor rash from a stupid toll booth. They really do need to make booths closer to the ground so I dont need to pull so close!

You could always open the door and step out of the car to do that....
