I haven't experienced the shortage of jobs here in Dallas. I don't work the "normal" job though.
The big industries out here (in Dallas) are health care / pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.

I could get paid more here in Dallas than in Seattle, doing less. Then again, it's prob. a case-to-case thing. The jobs are plentiful, but finding qualified people might be lacking in some cases.

Well you mentioned in your other post that you were a CTO before, so you probably have a lot of experience. With a lot of experience, comes jobs pretty much anywhere you want to go. I was mainly speaking of jobs available to the average joe.

I know my friend who lives up in MD and has a sh*t jobwants to come down here to VA to get into the IT field as I did 15 years ago. Problem is he cannot find a job down here that will hire him and pay him what he needs to be able to live in this area, without the experience. When I started in IT I was single so I could afford to live in less-desirable conditions until I got the experience to get a better job, THEN I got married, had kids, etc. My friend already has a family so he cannot do this. It sucks because we went to High School together and if you compare our lifestyles they are completely different. I have not even told him that I have purchased a TT yet because my TT is a third "fun" car for me, and it is pretty much a recreational buy. My friend does not do "recreational " buys. Ever.

Seattle is a beautiful place to live. I work in the city but live in the foot hills of the Cascade mountians. Winters suck..hardly any snow (except in the mountains) but tons of gloom and rain. Summers are beautiful....water, mountains and forests. There is a ton of stuff to do if you are into out doorsy stuff like boating/hiking/skiing-snowboarding.

There is a very large VW/Audi following up here and tons of shops like Achtuning for example.

Tech jobs...there are a ton. I'm work in the Seattle "snobby" tech world as well helping to provide large companies with convereged voice/datasolutions up to 10Gb flash waves on fiber.
If you know of any helpdesk or service desk positions that pay enough for me to live on my own (no roommate). Send them my way! I would love to live somewhere like that.

Dude...there are helpdesk type positions by the boatload in my area...built just for the single person looking to get their foot in the door...In fact, there may be even some available at my company. Just go to monster.com and search in the northern va, wash DC area and you will see what i am talking about. Of course, my area may not be as desirable as Seattle. Our traffic is terrible! We do have Va beach, Wash DC, Nags head, Luray caverns, etc.

I live near Gainsville and work in Herndon area. Throughout the years I have worked all over Northern Va and even downtown DC for 2 years. I worked government contracts for 10 years but my current job is commercial. I would love to be young againand just pack up and move to another coast lol, but I have too much family here.
