Default shifter ring removal

So I've heard that not all of the bolts in the shifter ring are functional. I'm getting ready to install a leather Gaiter shift boot($20 on eBay), and Im going to paint the shifter ring black like I did my front rings. I'm going to start blacking out and clearing as much of my alluminum inside the car as I can. I think the "piano black" look is gonna be realy nice. Do all of the bolts come out of the ring(so I can paint without having to tape). Next I'm going to do the grab bars and stereo flip door(if I can remove it). I would also like to do the vents, but I'm not sure if I can get the bezels off.

They all come out. Just pull the ring out and paint it, takes all of 3 mins to pull it

Nice! What about the bezels on the ac vents? Do they come off or should I just pull the entire vent and tape like mad?

They come out with the whole vent assembly, then the inner part can be separated from the bezel section.

Yeah, I know they come apart. Just not sure if the pain in the *** is worth it. I might just mask it all off. What about the stereo door.? Can that be removed to be painted?

The a/c vents ARE a pain in the ***, just mask it.

Not sure about the radio cover though, sorry.

I just ran out of that engine enamel. I did get enough paint on it tho. now I take it to my buddy for a couple coats of clear. On to my grab rails

I have it propped up on chopsticks. I will post the pic of it installed as soon as its cleared and baked

How well does the leather shift boot fit? Good quality leather?
