Short Shifter?
Unless you've got a lightened flywheel (or maybe the 6 spd alone will be enough to make a difference) your really not going to get much use out of a shorter throw. I know I can out shift my 5spd from 1-2 pretty easily, the gearing is set to let some RPM bleed off before it will go into 2nd clean. The short ratio six is a whole different game though, even though I havent beaten on one, with the increased time spent between gears you might be better served.
Personally I think both have a pretty good throw on them. The TT has the best manual setup I've driven so far (aside from the S, RS cars). The A3's and A4's have way too much slop in the shifter and clutch travel that brings to mind driving a full sized truck. The TT has a pretty clean gearbox by comparison.
Like I said though, I dont drive a 6spd around all-day, everyday so I dont have the grounds to say theres no room for improvement on that car. Fot the 5-spd driviers considering this though I say dont do it until you can bleed RPM faster or I'd wager money on some f'ed up syncros.
B&M is my favorite option for the short-throws though. It replaces the whole shifter assembly which will typically do a better job of preserving linkage geometry. You still keep the reverse lock-out so theres really no compromise in favor of the added performance.
Food for thought.

Isn't the point of having a short shifter is to reduce the throw hence...... making a faster shift..... I'm using the deisel geek short shifter and not only does it reduce the throw significantly from side to side the feel of the shift is amazing! trust me on this! i owned 2 tt's and if i ever getanother one its the 1st mod i will do!
