So I think I'm narcoleptic.
I don't always eat well, and don't always get enough rest, but who does? But I do manual labor, so I'm counting that towards exercise. The fact that this is not a one time happening, and I've had issues like this for some time leads me to believe theres something more than just not getting enough sleep. I guess you could argue that I'm not fully rested from the H2O trip yet, I had 2 late nights since coming back, one painting a car, the other changing plugs in mine, but that still doesn't explain the last 7 years. I'll definately give the vitamins a try, this isn't a mistake I can afford to make, morally or financially, anymore.
Matt, I'm glad to see you taking positive action from this.
I do agree with railrunner, and do not believe you are narcoleptic.
You do however need proper nutrition and rest! I've said this before, so lemme think of another way....
EAT (3 large meals and 3 small snacks a day)
SLEEP (6 - 8 hours every night)
AUDI! (Drive, and get around safely)
Glad you didn't get injured!

I was gonna say just what becca said. When I first started at UPS I used to get pulled over at least 3 times a week because police thought I was drunk driving off the road. I would fall asleep for seconds & forget why I'm behind the wheel. Then after time came around I learned to eat an actually meal (even when in a rush I get a BE&C on a roll at Mobil) & after awhile I notice while working 13 hour days, every chance I have to eat I eat. I'm sure you noticed that at in Ocean City. Then I'm when home I don't even turn on the TV anymore & sleep as much as I can.
Anyway, I really do hope you the best Matt. I rather hear your unhealthy at the moment instead of having narcolepsy.

I have severe sleep apnea which causes me to be extremely tired in the morning. I use a CPAP machine (occasionally.. if you have ever had the displeasure of sleeping with a mask on your face while air was pressurized into your mouth & nose you'd understand the occasionally.) I also take a Provigil every morning. Problem with that is I have to wait to take it until I get to work because since it is a stimulant it makes me need to go to the bathroom... sometimes very urgently.
So the downside of all of this is I drive from Boardman, OH (Youngstown area) to Pittsburgh, PA every morning. Sometimes I am half asleep. I open windows, sing to myself, listen to loud music and often catch myself falling asleep at some of the worst times. Like the recent episode where I almost rear-ended someone due to my dozing off. I have also had close calls with road dividers or the berm, guardrails and the occasional embankment.
I feel for you. I haven't wrecked yet, but I literally fear for my life some mornings. It really bites.

I dont think it's necessarily narcolepsy, but rather your body's way of bleeding off stress by zoning out. my brother has that same issue. alot of times when you put your mind through a lot of stress during the day, you'll wind down by zoning real hard on the way home. It usually happens to people that have jobs where they do a lot of mental work and have a lot of pressure. I know a few people this happens to and none of them are your blue collar factory worker type or joe regular that just shows up and punches the clock. Its usually folks that deal with a lot of accountability, statistics, and deadlines.
I would see someone... but I seriously doubt it's narcolepsy. My brother has totalled 3 or 4 cars this way; including one of mine.
