Default Spark Plug Selection

I am about to order new Coilpacks for my 2002 225 due to misfiring at high boost levels and I had a few questions. I have the code for Random and multiple misfires so I am just going to replace all 4 coils and since I have to remove the coils I met as well go through the extra 5 minutes of wotk and change the plugs.
Are there any substantially upgraded coilpacks other than the ones sold on ECS Tuning? And if so has anyone tried them
I have been running copper NGK plugs 1 heat range colder and gapped to 0.028. Is this really that much more advantageous than stock plugs as the forum and the FAQ recommend? Also has anyone tried spark plugs other than NGK on this particular vehicle such as the Bosch Fusion or Denso Iridium?

I have the foolowing modifications.
2.5" exhaust
APR Silicone Intake horse
Forge 007 diverter valve
APR 91 Octane Chip

All coilpacks are stock, the Hitachi bolt downs are more reliable. Not going to see any gain with different plugs, just different length of time between changes. Some A4 guys like the Bosch ones with the 3 electrodes (cant remember what they are called atm)

I'd double check the gapping on your spark plugs as well. I have the e version on mine & I havn't seen a misfire code in... ever really.

Wintermute, not to be a jerk, but I'm pretty confident that the coilpacks are bad. It misfires only under full throttle and high boost situations and my car has 106k on the odomotor with original coilpacks that have never been replaced.

plugs are cheaper, replace plugs first, see if that solves problem. I thought I had a bad coilpack, same symptoms. I had a cracked sparkplug. (not to be a jerk)

HaHa Achttung!!! LOL. Interestingly, it has actually become a sort of universal warning. When someone says to you " Not to be a _________ ,but . . ." It usually means they are actually warning you that they are about to be a ________ while still making themselves feel as though they are not.

In all seriousness though I checked all the plugs and they seemed ok, just a little dirty. A read in a previous thread some time ago that bad plugs will cause a misfire from idle to redline but coils only cause misfire under acceleration or other heavy load. If anyone can clear that up, my thanks in advance.

path of least resistance. when the revs start climbing, and you start putting more electrical load on the plugs, the path of least resistance might not be from the electrode to the ground anymore, it might be from the coilpack, down the outside of the plug, to the block.

wish i had a pic, I had a big arc mark down the side of my plug. worked fine for normal driving, misfired under boost.

If you really think your plugs are alright, and you dont' want to spring for good plugs, at least get some $1.30 autolites to test it out. Its good to have a spare set of plugs with the car anyway. It was 12° when i left the house this morning, and the car didn't want to start. I fouled out my plugs trying. Threw my other set of plugs in, got a jumpstart, and off I went.
