Street Brakes for Bolt On level performance
So annoying, I just typed up a post and then had an error trying to submit, so this is an adbridged version. Time to plan brake upgrade. Not going to put 1k down for a wilwood, car is juststreet, only going to see bolt-ons; no bt, no auto-x, track, drag. Rotors absoultely cant be cold brittle, I live in VT and car will see year round use, and I am not interested in trading better stopping for squeaky pads. I am planning on going with stainless lines though, I definitely notice the squish of the current lines. Here is a quick thought from the shop I work with. Thoughts? Thanks
" Here is what i have for a start. Powerslot coated rotors, 250.00
front, 180.00 rear, front pads mintex 45.00, rear 30.00.
zimmerman cross drilled front 180.00, rear 155.00 Let me know if you
have something different in mind."

Just stick with plain faced rotors and the mintex pads. The better pads will stop much better than the stock crap and also dust less. On a street car you dont make enough heat to warrent drilled or slotted rotors, they just remove brake to pad contact. I have installed mintex red box pads on both my fathers 3series and brothers passatt and they both stop great
thanks, the powerslot base rotors have "vac-u-slot" sounds almost raunchy, but is that still considered plain faced since its not drilled? 505 doesnt sound terrible for a new brake set up before lines
They are great rotors, i had them on my turbo lancer, my only complaint was they ate the pads and reduced the life of the pads a good deal. Plain face as in smooth, like stock.
Thanks again, I am thinking of just doing the following given my low key setup
From ECS,
Plain Rotor, Rear - 10.1 (256x22) - Pair ES#483, 95,
Plain Rotor, Front- 12.3 (312x25) - Pair ES#479 139,
Mintex Red Box Pads(front) - Set With Wear Sensors ES#403 37 Mintex Red Box Pads (set Of 4 Pads) ES#396 40 ECS Tuning DOT Approved Brake Line Kit ES#1310 100 412 before s&h

That sounds like a more pad friendly street setup. While you are at it, you should consider changing the brake fluid if you are getting up there in miles and/or years
Cool, as far as fluids, I had brake/tranny/diffs done when the oil and spark plugs were changed, pretty much first thing I did other than a boost gauge.Mileage, yeah Iam at ~87k, and the timing belt serviceis done. Its really silly when people put major time and or $ into the car without doing the reccomened maintenace first [>:] Everytime I look at new rims or a dp, maintenace always seems to be required haha ah well. I have to meet up with matt (achttung) and have him scan me again, all my plugs and filters are cool, but I am seeing lower mileage than I should, only like ~23mpg with mostly highway, boooooooo for ~4.40/gallon gas.
I was also wondering about perfcafe's deal over on vwvortex, 199 for plain front and rear rotors with pads, not sure on mintex though, I will post up over there and find out
