Default Throttle Body Cleaning

I've been searching, and now i'm tired of looking for it...

Someone recently posted a how to on throttle body cleaning. I've cleaned many throttle bodies before, but in this how to, it mentioned running vag com after cleaning.

Can't find the post now, but is this true?? Can I just clean the TB and put it back on and enjoy, or is there some silly Audi stuff involved afterwards?

you need to align the tb after your finished (dbw). if you dont have a vag com then just unplug your battery for 10mins. turn the car ON, NOT START. you will then hear a loud, high pitch whinning (tb aligning). when that is done, start you car and your done.

make sure you don't touch the gas pedal while its doing its alignment though, you'll throw it all off.

What are some signs the TB needs cleaned? Or is it one of those preventative maintence things.

TIA.

Also, is there a gasket when you remove the Throttle body to clean it? Or, are you spraying it and wiping it down etc.. I had planned on reseting it with Vag com tonight but ended up drinking some Crown and taking it easy

RoberTT over on Audiworld has a Fotki on Throttle Body Cleaning. This is for a 180 but the same steps apply for the 225.

Finding things on AudiWorld has so far been the hardest thing I've had to do with this car...Working on it is really simple, a lot easier than most guys make it out to be...but searching audiworld has proved to be pretty frustrating

In my experience it should be a maintenence thing... On most cars/trucks I've had I clean the TB or carb around every 50k...luckily I've never had to remove one before though...

I am going to clean mine because I have cleaned the MAF, replaced the temp sensor, and checked for leaks (without finding any), and my idle is good, but still can be a little funny sometimes (tiniest bounces). With high mileage, and it being a used car, I would clean it anyways, but I'm hoping it helps my idle a lil...

we have just learned to tune you out!! We call it the ryan mod!! But take off the hose attached to the tb and see if it has any build up in it. if it does then clean it.
