5. If you cried to Audi about your timing belt you neglected and got them to cover your repair. You can expect to be upsold... and taking a month... Ha Ha. You need to understand the technician gets paid by the second. So the hour he was guaranteed for diagnosis, GONE. Plus all the litigating over warranty, waiting for you to call Audi. Waiting for Audi to call the dealer... This is money the TECHNICIAN is now loosing. This is the TECHNICIAN now working for free, because you neglected your car, cried to Audi. Please forgive the technician for not showing their gratitude and hurrying to get your your precious car back.

And Audi warranty will ONLY cover parts broken by the timing belt. So them upselling stuff for you is, YES a way to make back lost money. But also a courtesy to you to get ALL REPAIRS needed.

I am going to say this one last time. This is my girlfriend's car and NOT MINE!! She bought the car used. She knew the timing belt would have to be replaced at some time, but was told everything was ok with it and there was nothing they could do until it broke! Don't blame her for someone else's incompetence. The car was first owned by someone that had it serviced at the very dealership that was giving her the runaround. I'm sure their records would show what kind of service was done. She did not "cry" to anyone. She explained the situation to Audi after the dealership told her she would have to pay all costs. It is my understanding that Audi researched the issue, and determined that they would pay for everything except the water pump. I think it says a lot about Audi as a company, and since I am looking to replace my own car, I am strongly going to consider buying an Audi for myself, though obviously not at any dealership you work at.

Apparently you have trouble reading, or didn't bother to read through my post. I never said a tech was involved in the upselling. The dealership called and told her. It was either someone from the front office or a "service representative". She did not "interface" with a tech.

If you are a tech, I can understand why they don't let you "interface" with customers. You are rude and obnoxious, and didn't, or couldn't read my posts. Instead you were intent on giving me the Joe Friday speech about not appreciating what a tough job techs have. Seems to me the only one doing the crying is you.

This is typical confusion about timing belt issues. Audi wants to inspect it, but won't do anything unless it breaks. Seriously! When it eventually does break the owner is blamed for neglect, and is charged accordingly. If Audi actually wanted to fix this problem, without question, they should recall ALL models that have the potential for breakage. Hell, their own warranty schedule varies from 60-105,00 miles depending on which owner's manual you have.
As far as the Technician suffering, that is a problem caused by Audi, not a customer simply expecting to get their car fixed, and understand the "warranty". Your poor attitude towards your customers is a reflection on the management at your dealership and Audi America. It appears there is as much internal confusion as there is our knowing what is covered under warranty.
Unfortunately the customer has to fight to get anything resolved as Audi will not volunteer anything unless pushed. Some of you may remember the coil pack recall, that few were able to take advantage of do to the same dealer attitude. Again, avoid the dealership anytime possible. Makes me wish I had never sold my Toyota Tacoma.

Your attitude beautifully demonstrates precisely why I hate most dealerships and their cocky techs. Get off your high horse. If you come here to start arguments more than helping people out, do us all a favor and go away.

just to throw my experience in...I just had this same issue happen to me and I have to give credit to audi for the job the did for me. I was soo grateful to finally find a dealership that didn't come up with excuses. It went so far as to them knowing about the chip and still did the work. no questons. The recall which i did nurmerous hours on was not technically on the timing belt from what aoa told me. It was actually on the service manual. the service interval is correct but they never put in that you are actually supposed to get it checked every 40000 miles. they offered everyone a free timing belt inspection in hopes of making everyone understand that they break and inspections are important. then once the free inspection occurs they cover the car until 105,000. All my service records were in order even though i went to four different dealships and they fixed everything in three days. they even helped me out by doing work for free that had nothing to do with the belt. airbag light, couple of nuts missing, tranny fluid stiffened up the clutch pedal, just a bunch of little things that really made the difference
