Timing Belt Question.
I am currently working on a 2000 audi tt (ATC engine code).
I am a little confused on how the crank needs to be aligned. The belt is completly back on, I made sure the cam was at TDC. What needs to happen with the crank pulley. Im using blueTTop's write up and the only thing that i couldnt figure out its this. I see the bump coming off the crank pulley itslef but im not seeing any notches or anything to line up. Ive talked to a few friends but im jsut not seeing what needs to happen. Any help or pictures would be appreciated. |
the alignment marks for the crank are on tbe flywheel. one notch on flywheel, one on housing. small inspection window may/may not be covered with a rubber plug. both the crank notch and the cam notch need to be in alignment. make sure you turn the crank over by hand a couple rotations before you start the car to make sure you dont have any interference

I too have the ATC engine, same model year, and I did the belt myself using this writeup...http://www.amp82.co.uk/tt/timingbelt
I found it to be the best, with all respect to others. Reference step 8 and click on all the pics. |
