Timing belt question...
Got a 2000 audi tt and was wondering if it really matters if the timing belt tensioner and roller is really need to be changed at 60k. I came from a honda where timing belts needed to be replaced at 90k and tensioners never broke. I just dont want to throw another 200 into this car when it really doesn't need it. I am changing my water pump as well as timing belt and turns out it cheaper for me to do it then to take it to the dealer and take the warranty with all the deducts and what not. Called audi and they really couldnt tell me other than when the audi's come in for service they change them all at once. Didn't really give me a yes or a no. Just give some input as I am taking care of this tomorrow.
I'm gonna reply anyway....
Its not the timing belt that goes prematurely, ITS THE TENSIONER. Waterpump is an issue as well, original pump from Audi has a plastic impeller that self destructs.
BTW, this is all well documented if you search the forum... Probably to the point now where you could close your eyes and pick a link, and you'll still get the answers you need.
