tranny fluid low? how do i know?
hey i have a manual 01 TT 225 quatro... and need to know where the tranny fluid is poured or how can you check it? i found a rubber plug that looks like it goes to the tranny ( you can see it from optop looking at the engine bay)., and it looks dry, but im not sure if its the trranny or not. please reply asap whoever knows where it is you check/pour in tranny fluid and if its the whole with the rubber ****. thank you!
I'm pretty sure that you can't see either plug from the top.
Take off bottom sound insulator.
Located drain plug about 1 foot right of oil drain plug.
Fill plug is on thefront of transmission (facing toward the front), directly above the the drain plug.
Be on level surface.
Drain oil from transmission.
Fill back up using fill plug until it goes to the top and you can't put anymore in.
A way you can check the level is to put your finger in the fill hole and see if it's there.
It's very easy to do. There's no way to check it from the engine bay as it was designed as a sealed system as it is on most cars with a manual.

If its just a matter of checking to see if you're low (and you shouldn't be unless you have a noticable drip), unscrew the plug on the front of the tranny (like mentioned, it faces the front of the car), fluid should be at or near the level of that plug. Make sure the car is on level ground when you do.
If you're going to replace it, make sure you drain the bevel box as well, theres a plug for that facing the pass. side of the car, and its near the pass side axleshaft.
