Default TT Sound System-Upgrades/Install

Im kinda just wondering if anyone has upgraded their sound systems in their TT and if anyone had any suggestions on which direction to go.

I got the 01 TT 225 and it has the bose sound system (6 spkr i think?) with the 6 disc changer in the back. It has good sound, but I am thinking about modifying it. One problem I have is I really dont know much about installing a sound system or really much about them at all. I would like to get maybe 1 subwoofer, maybe some replacement 6' cones etc. I would imagine that I would need a new stereo to increase the output from the stereo to the speakers (or could i keep my factory stereo), and if i replaced the stereo, would i really need better cones (i imagine bose makes very nice ones).

My biggest problem with all of this (once i find out what i want) is getting it installed. I cringe at the thought of taking my TT to a big box store (best buy, circuit city) and letting a bunch of guys who might or might not know what the heck their doing start messing with the electronics in my car. Has anyone got anything installed from these places?

So basically I want a nice, solid, high quality sound system in my TT. What do you guys have or suggest getting? Where/Who installed it for you?

Thanks

With a bose system, you want to replace the speakers and the headunit at the same time (and bypass the bose amp), not just one or the other. However, with a vag-com, you can reprogram the crossovers in the bose radio and get better sound out of the existing setup. IMO, all the bose system was lacking was bass, so I wired an infinity basslink off the amp leads. It doesn't beat down the block or anything, but it gives me a full range of sound at any volume, which is all I care about. That and not killing my trunk space, but I think I did alright. I'm really happy with the sound, and only have the basslink gain about 1/5th the way up.

dude keep the bose run all the speakers that are there on an external amp and they will sound AMAZING, then as a good quality 10'sub in a small sealed box with another amp 600-800w and you will have a tight system, you need more info on how to do this let me know i can help you out

Hey I put 3 JL Audio 10's in my TT. Kept the stock bose system and just added the subs off of one of the speakers. It sounds pretty dank good. Any Questions just ask.

Sorry to respond to such an old post, but I don't want to make a new thread, so I'm searching through old ones. I've heard that replacing the stereo is a pain, and you need to do amps and speakers and whatnot too, but are you saying that just adding an aftermarket amp/sub is fairly simple? I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to replace the deck and all that, I just want a little more bass.
