Question vag-com & lemmiwinks suggestions?

I am wondering do I need/want both?

I am planning to get a BT in the next year. I feel like I cant go without the vag-com much longer but am unsure which cable I should get....I read the usb cable is a lemmon.

How nice of a laptop do I need or can I get away with a cheap $250-300 unit to run both lemmi & vag?
I know almost nothing about laptops. What should I look for?

Will a vag from the bay be sufficient & do I really need the $99 vag download or is the free one ($14) really all I need?

Thanks for any suggestions/help in advance,
Eric

The usb cables are fine. Think that was just an issue with using lemmiwinks a LONG time ago. As long as your comp has enough memory to run the sw, its fine. Just remember that you can only load it onto a single computer so once you dl it, thats what you stuck using.

The free version only lets you use the first 20 block of measuring and thats far from what all you will need/want to use. Thats only good for people that want to read/clear codes. A hex-usb is what you will want if you plan on actually doing logs and graphing them. Also you will want to use unisettings or eurodynes version (actually the same thing), it works far better than revos outdated version.

Cincy, have you played with the Unisettings on your car? I was messing with it a bit on mine but wasn't clear what should be done as far as timing is concerned ( I have w/m)...haven't really done much with my Vag-Com at all actually...not completely clear what blocks to log or what to look for to know how much I'm pulling. Any tips?
