Default 'vents' in the trunk?

Does anybody know that the vents (the horizontal slats) in the trunk side panels are for?
is there any harm in blocking them off?

help doors close easier, make ac/vents work better.

cars seal up pretty well, you need someplace for air to escape when you turn on the climate control and start pushing fresh air into the car.

rear speakers are to teh sides of the rear seat. that'd be quite a ways to port.

think you can actually see the vents with the rear bumper off. they're panels with rubber 'reeds' i guess you'd call them. normally lay closed to keep crap from getting in, but crack open when pressure inside the car is higher than outside.

I always thought they were needed to keep your rear window(s) from fogging up.

Yeah would be a strange port but Bose likes to do crap like that. I'll take your word for it.

my subs blew the flaps off the vents so I took em out and taped them shut with duct tape.
The way the TT windows seal is very lackluster (cant go in a carwash etc) so with the vents blocked off, the AC is now pressurizing the cabin and finally escaping through the windows seams. it makes a very loud wooshing sound even on the lowest setting.

A word of advice !... I initially just removed the flaps that open/close the vents with pressure, so the vents were just open all the time; this led to exhaust fumes being drawn into the cabin constantly (driving fast or slow) so it was very unhealthy.

best thing to do is to tape em shut and deal with the AC wooshing noise from the windows, or replace them with new ones should your's have damaged flaps.
