Waterproof Car Keys?
So I have an 'o3 TT and the usual key fob with the remote for the locks, trunk, panic, etc. Heres the deal: I wanted a key without all that stuff so I could go swimming with it, or sailling, or something where the key might get soaked. I wanted just a normal old metal key without the "chirp-chirp". Called the dealer to ask and they said for $70 I could get a normal non-remoted key but it still has the immobilizer chip in it, and they weren't sure if it was waterproof either. Have any of you guys ever accidentaly sent your keys through the laundry or anything like that?
Yeah, it ticks me off. - Your best bet is to get a water proof pocket. - Which they do make.
I have a pair of shorts if you zip the pockets closed they are water proof. - I go swimming with my cell phone and keys in my pockets all the time. - Never had an issue. - The zippers are cool..because you have to turn them and pull at the same time to open them...so its not dangerous.
Best of luck.
Oh yes, the shorts were only $45

Hmm, the waterproof pouch or something may be the easiest solution, I guess.
As for having the new key made, it sounds like it'd be about $80 if you have the dealer call in the VIN to Audi, or she said they could cut a new one at the dealership for an extra $10 or so. Sounds like it'd might be near $100 for a new key thats been programed.

I had to get a new key last year and it was like $300 for the key, $100 for the Fob, and like $75 to put them together and activate the anti-theft chip thing.
**Edit** nah... that doesnt sound right. It was something like that though. I think I paid like $400 something for all of it. I dont know how much for each though.
