What's up at 4k RPM
Hi,
I've been lurking on this page for a while and don't get to drive my TT very often since I'm usually driving a large, heavy, slow moving diesel but when I do drive my TT and try to accelerate hard I seem to hit a wall at 4,000 rpm.
Especially in the higher gears.
It seems to pull real strong if I staybelow 4K or if I press the throttle gently but somtimes ya just wanna go.
I ain't looking to boost the engine's output (at the moment) I just want it to rev to 6,000 without the hesitation.
I have a 2000 180T that seems to be completely stock, no rear spoiler, ESP, etc.
It would be nice if it pulled harder than my wife's Bettle TDI. (sarcasm)
Any help would be appreciated, Al

Do the RPMs actually stop climbing at 4k or does it just not pull anywhere near as hard once you hit 4k?
These cars pull very hard from about 2.3k up to 4k and then in plateau off and doesn't pull as hard after that. I believe someone said that an FMIC will help it to pull all the way to redline.

Well... i had that whole thing too in high gears only... like 1st and 2nd would seemingly pull right through then tailed off... Then i got a chip... my chip enables the car to pull right through the RPMs at a constant pace... so do a chip to get the car to pull through...
heads-up: if you get a chip you should get a DV too

Yea the stock cars with the stock intercoolers will hit a wall at about 4k. If you chip it with a new DV and then a FMIC it will help but you will still notice the power loss. Its not really power loss but actually the torque, if you look at most 1.8t dynos the torque dies off after about 4-5k that is what you are feeling. Even if you get alot more power its just how the engine is make, you will always feel the drop due to the torque falling off.
It runs like TTKid says, pulls to6k in 1st and 2nd but seems to tail off in the higher gears.
Right at 4k it just doesn't seem to accelerate as hard as it was.
I must say though, I'm amazed at how strong it pulls right off idle for such a small motor.
I guess I'll start looking into chip, DV, etc.
Thanks, Al

i learned my lesson the hard way about the chip so beware... if in the future your looking into really modding your TT make sure you stick with the same company... example, i have the O.CT chip, but if i want the APR stage 3+ ill lose the money i paid for OCT and pay for a new chip from APR.. i think that makes sense
