Turning off the motion detector, which i believe (correct me if im wrong) is located in that vent-looking thing above the dome lights.

I dont have the middle button between my fuel door and my trunk release, is this normal or something that was a added option? What does the motion detector for exactly?

Motion detector is your first line if someone breaks a window to get into the car. The factory alarm monitors the doors, hood and hatch/trunk for signs that someone is trying to force it. Glass isn't monitored, so once its smashed, and the theif reaches in, it should set the alarm off.
If you have the button, you can disable the motion sensor (like if you're leaving a pet or a kid in the car and want to lock it). The car door needs to be open, then you press the button (the light should be lit in the button now), get out, lock it, and you should be good to go. It resets itself after you unlock the car again.
