Default "Linking Error" when trying to check CEL???

I have a 2001 A4 Quattro. The car was running just fine yesterday and all of a sudden the CEL came on...... I previously purchased a vag can scanner to aid me in removing any unnecessary CELS. The problem is..... when I try connecting to the obd2 port the scanner lights up and stays on but after a few seconds the words "linking Error" keep coming up. removed the battery terminal to reset theECU and it worked but for some odd reason the scanner still comes with the "LInking Error"!!!! Anyone know what it may be?? please let me know. I posted this in the reviews section last night not realizing it. Sorry AF techs!!

Sounds most likely to bea bent-over pin on the cable connector that plugs into your obd2 port.

Try the scanner on another vehicle & see what happens.

Do you have an aftermarket radio? If you do, try unplugging it before connecting. Sometimes the cluster will freak out and prevent connecting too, so it's worth a try unplugging it too.

That's right , forgot about that one , it will fry your scan tool if is hooked up incorrectly.
