i think the 2.8 owns the 1.8 out right, lol... hear me out...
$4000 for a supercharged 2.8 running a solid 13.5 all day long
$4000 for a BT audi running a 13.5
YET, the 2.8 still remains INCREDIBLY reliable and you have all the goodies that come on a 2.8 vs the "diet coke" version of the a4... and the 2.8 still has the stronger tranny and most of them have WAY more options than a 1.8 from factory.
Somebody please tell me im wrong... but I think everyone needs to get there head outta the clouds and possibly realize that the 2.8 might be the way to go all around...
if you get a 1.8 and only plan on spending $1000 on mods than your no faster than low 15, which is exactly what a 2.8 runs, STOCK.
I know im gonna get flamed but i dont care, just thought I would point it out that maybe the 2.8 is the way to go EVEN IF MODDING.
i love you all, lol.

For 2.8, there is one sc available. For 1.8t, there are many available turbosthat can be tailored to your specific torque/power demands. The fact remains that the 1.8t has many, many more options when it comes to power modding.
You wont see a 400-500hp 2.8 ever, like I have seen 1.8s.
Nice try though.

$4k? The G2 supercharger is $5k new.
Even with a supercharger and intercooler, the highest numbers you can get are around 240awhp.

With $4k into a 1.8t, you can get a GT2871R eliminator and throw down 290+ awhp. $5k could get you into GT3071R territory if you look hard enough.
edit- fat fingers don't spell well.

I want to see a fully built 2.8 with twin turbos and a built bottom end. Doing some quick numbers, a 2.8L with twin GT2860R's could throw down 560chp @ 20psi being full boost around 3k rpm.
Good luck on funding that project though.

i dont think you can throw down 300awhp reliably with a 1.8t and 4 grand, sorry but i just dont think so... the clutch would get fried instantly so theres at least 600 bucks if you buy smart and install smart..
the turbo itself is a grip of money plus intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, tuning, and hoping that when its all done your transmission doesnt blow and you have no boost leaks..
brand new PES G2 superchargers are going for $3700 now, look around, there not $5000 anymore, that was like 3-4 years ago when they first came out..
its all gravy i just gotta back up my 2.8, but the 1.8 does have more options to do i will admit, but the 2.8 supercharged has amazing reviews about reliability and such.

$4k and 13.5 w/ a 1.8t should be more than easy to accomplish. You shouldnt even need 300awhp to get there also in the 1.8t. If someone made a ko4-2x kit for the a4, that would be more than enough to get in down the track in 13.5. *300awhp should get you a few tenths less.

Ateurv8, you know you want a 1.8t. Stop trying to convince yourself otherwise. If there were an award for the person that wished they had a 1.8t instead of a 2.8 most, youd get it. Dont fight it man, its natural.
