'01 A4 Audio aggravation . . .
While working on my car, my mechanic blew up the factory Audi Symphony, #8DO 035 195A. I ordered a second-hand example of the same radio and . . the front speakers don't work.
My mechanic says there are two applications of the Symphony radio, with and without amplified front speakers.
My question is, what difference is there, if any, between the Symphony with amplified front speakers and without amplified front speakers. If they're the same head unit, what differentiates the "Bose" from the "non-Bose"?
I have had the car for almost a month and the mechanic has put more miles on it than I have trying to sort out the little faults.
I am about ready to sell the '01 A4 and keep the '96 A4 'cause I'm getting fed up with buying parts for a car that I haven't driven in weeks . . .

Can't help you, but hang in there! Spent two weeks getting most of my little things sorted out, and now even with an ABS issue to troubleshoot, I am really enjoying my new to me '01 around town!
And I bet things will always pop up, but that is why we are lucky to have the Interwebs. For instance, the manual says it cuts off the radio when starting, but on mine the front driver's speaker stays on, which makes for a weird audio transition. Off to research that here and elsewhere while I enjoy a cocktail . . .

I've been working the phone and I've learned this:
The dealer is clueless on the audio aspects of the car.
The local sound shop that works on the cars for the dealer says the plugs are different between the amplified front speaker version and the non-amplified front speaker version of the Symphony stereo.
At least I now know that I have the right radio: 8DO 035 195A
Tomorrow the sound shop will trouble shoot the front speaker problem - they say it could be a fuse or coupler . . .

The part number of the radio that came out of my car is 4B0035195A.
The part number of the replacement radio is 4B0035195A. This one did not work.
It turns out that the Audi Symphony radio (un-amplified front speakers) and the Audi Bose radio (amplified front speakers) have the same part number.
The only way to tell them apart is to check the read-out when the radio is turned on.
If it says Symphony, it's the un-amplified front speaker version.
If it says Bose, it's the amplified front speaker version.
I now have to buy a second replacement radio . . .
