1.8 and 2.8 trans?
Are the 1.8 and 2.8 quattro trans swappable? Bolt pattern to the block? Obviously they would have different gear ratio's, but would they bolt up? Has anyone ran a 2.8 tranny in there 1.8?

you can bolt up certain 2.8 trans' to a 1.8T motor...like stated above, you'd use a 1.8 clutch....
the gear raitio's are the same in 1st second and 3rd...but on the 2.8 the revs will be lower in 4th and 5th....

So the main differance in the trans is gearing right? The 1.8 is like a little shorter gears to help out w/ the somewhat less torque correct? Im just having a hard time getting a good deal on a 2.8 manual trans...

1.8t vs 2.8 and at 7k rpm for both
1st = 3.778 - 3.500 ------ 34.2 vs 36.9 mph
2nd = 2.176 - 1.944 ------ 59.3 vs 66.4 mph
3rd = 1.429 - 1.300 ------ 90.3 vs 99.3 mph
4th = 1.029 - 0.943 ------ 125.4 vs 136.8 mph
5th = 0.838 - 0.789 ------ 154.0 vs 163.6 mph

^good to know....thanks!
it looks like 1st and second are pretty similar...but 3rd,4th and 5th have a pretty bug difference...
i think if my tranny goes i would like to go up to a 2.8 trans...hopefully not any time too soon tho...

8k- 1.8t vs 2.8
1st - 39 - 42.1
2nd - 67.8 - 75.9
8500 1.8t vs 2.8
1st = 41.5 - 44.8
2nd = 72 - 80.6
Down side to the taller gears is that it takes longer to run thru that gear and longer to get to the same mph. Just jumping from a 2.8 trans back to a 1.8 trans my trap speeds went from high 120's to mid 130's and my ET went from low 11's to mid 10's.
