I have an 01 a4 1.8t quattro manual it is a AWM engine code. I am looking for a stock replacement long block, was wondering if any of the previous year engines would work or what it would take to make them work and so on. I was reading that my engine is internal water pump and has a map sensor is that the only differences?

I am just trying to get a decent engine back in the car for the best price. It would cost me over 2k to fix mine .

i'd try to find an AWM but older engines will work but you would need like the full harness too. mount points are the same. not sure if the turbo is positioned the same way though. wut is wrong with yours?

 

The 01 is a 06A block where the 97-2000 are 058, not really swappable. You can use an engine out of any 01+ A4 or passat. The AWM is continued through 03 or 04 in the passat and a AMB will also work since its the same engine, just stamp different
