if you put a anything larger than a k04 on a stock tip trans and plan on running the turbo to its full potential your trans is gonna blow plain and simple, I've been through 3 automatic transmissions 1 with a K04 PC-16 file and the other 2 with a GT2871r it just cant take the power

i guess the guy i know personally who has a gt2871 (installed 14 months ago) on a tip and the few guys online running 2871's and at least one that i know of with a GT3071 with little to no problems to speak of on tip transmissions should be blowing up any time then.....

sorry you had so many problems but you are in the minority of people who do. like i said, increase in power means more stress which means more of a chance things break. that is true for any car or part that is pushed beyond its normal use. however it has been done before and there are currently several people running larger turbos on the auto trans and have been doing so for a good amount of time. you can not say with a certainty that everyone who tries is going to blow a transmission because it just isnt true.

is it possible at all to buy the apr stage3 exhaust manifold by itself or do i have to buy the kit? i would rather piece it all together with custom parts instead of paying 4.5k for a kit.

Hey, im new to the audi scene and i was reading this forum mainly, and im wondering it says youmight need to replace rods with the gt2871r and gt3071r . If you replace the rods will you need to do anything else to the motor to run these turbos at high psi's or is the rod changing to run at like lower psi's? And how much do you think it will cost me to get atleast 350-375 whp?

help would be greatly appreciated

rods, pistons, new head bolts, perhaps new headgasket (for obvious reasons) if your that deep might as well not stop there, head work. 350-375 id say a modest 3700 bux, if you do it all yourself. or theres plug n play APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles. and get yourself the stage 3 kit...close to 350.

damn good write up chaos92287, was a real informative read.

Default thanks

great write up, I appreciate it. What about guidance on a boost gauge? One site said do not "drive your car" without one after putting on a GT2X eliminator kit. Thoughts?

Also, I'm now looking at the F21 Frankenturbo. Thoughts on this one?

Looking to upgrade to the GT28RS (and supporting mods) but first I wanna fix a few things before going too far ahead (rocker cover gasket, plugs, etc. and just a general tidy up) but the factory turbo has pretty much had it.. Turbine chatters at low rpm, chipped a few fins and the oil seal has been eaten out, burning oil ...
So as you could imagine, I'm pretty keen to replace that first... Haha

So I guess my question is.... Until the funding picks up due to building a house, would I be able to just swap out the factory turbo, with the 28RS??
(Obviously manifold etc.)
But just as a sort of temporary fix, so the car is running properly, without turbo chatter haha

P.s.
In case you haven't figured it out already, I'm pretty new to the Audi scene haha.

Thanks in advance guys.
I'll have a few more questions regarding the entire build, but for now let's start with this GT28RS build
