1996 A4 2.8 lighting issue
So the issue with my headlights are that when I flip the switch on my markers come on but my headlights do not.
The brights do work and when I have the car off, turn the lights on the car dings as though they are on but I dont get headlights. Anyone give me some suggestions to start or ideas?

Been there ... done that ... same car.
You have a bad switch contract in your turn signal / light control stalk. This results from a design flaw in which the full current of the headlights runs through the switch, instead of through a relay.
I found a brand new aftermarket (Valeo) replacement switch online for about $100. The first one was defective (no left turn signal, without some jiggling), but the second one works like a champ. Replacement is not too difficult.
