2001 A4 1.8T - Worth the repairs?
Hello guys,
I have a 2001 A4 1.8T I bought certified used 11 years ago and how have 78k miles on it, it's a second short commute car. It's been running well up until now when it started pushing smoke on heavy acceleration & clicking on turns.
I had it looked over at reputable shop in the Berkeley, CA area. It needs the breather PSV system replaced, the lower controllers arms, and some other small misc repairs for a total of $3k in repairs, half of that is labor.
Would you sink this kind of money into repairs for a car of this age? I enjoy not having a payment, but am considering a new car. Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
D

$3k is a lot. I wouldnt spend that much.
See if you can find someone else to do the labor, it will be much cheaper. But I am guessing the smoke may be coming from the turbo, and that doesn't make things any cheaper.

If maintained well these vehicles can certainly have a long life. I have a 2003 1.8T and I have over 188K miles on it. Sure it needs to have things replaced here and there but if you do preventative maintenance you typically wont get hit with large repair bills.
