Default 2001 A4 clicks only when in gear, clicks in all gears

2001 A4 149,XXX miles 2.8L V6.

It sounds like a card stuck in a bike tire. If its in gear and accelerating it clicks loud from passenger side when downshifting and braking it clicks but as soon as I take it out of gear it stops. It does not do it when idling only driving. Mechanic checked The axle and cv joint and they were fine. Is it the waste gate or a chipped gear tooth? All belts were checked too he said everything looked fine but he couldn't pinpoint it. Thanks in advance

possible heat shield hitting the drive shaft. Does the car shift fine and drive fine?

Yeah it rides fine. Just the clicking noise. Sometimes it's not too loud and sometimes it's real loud it varies. Just got the oil changed last week too after 6,000 miles

Is the heat shield something I should be worried about?

sounds like a haetshield. its just annoying but I would find out what the clicking is and fix it before it wears something out or breaks off and cut a hole in your gas line and starts a fire

Ya I gotta bring it to an Audi mechanic the other mechanic couldn't figure it out. How much do heat shields gi for? Are they a pain to put in?

And it's gonna go on fire? Lol I hope your kidding, can't get it checked out for 3 more weeks

I'm kidding, really this is something you can do yourself you don't need a , mechanic. It shouldn't cost money either as its still attached to the car.

Not the heat shield. Told it could be exhaust manifold leak, front brakes or something with the piston??

Needs front brakes since yesterday. Going to change those and see if it stops the rattling. I had a hole in my exhaust the size of my hand when I hit a bump that I patched up. The exhaust is rusted real bad, thinking the exhaust manifold could be pinched or leaking. Would the exhaust manifold only make noise in gear? Pretty lost about to go to the dealer since my mechanic can't diagnose it.

Also it doesn't click in all gears anymore. It clicks loud when turning right but soft when turning left. Sometimes it will only click when braking or downshifting.
