hi guys, I'm picking up a 96 audi but I don't know wether to get the 1.8 or 2.6. I need a daily driver while I will be modifying this lightly, I need reliability.

only 2.8l in a 96 not 1.8t so if you are getting a 96 thats all you can get there is no choice to make

 

Wrong. There were different engine options in europe, and other countries.

to the thread starter, you want to go for the 1.8T if you want to mod the car for any performance gains.

 

with a 2.8L all you can do is an intake and exhaust yet with a 1.8T you can do a bunch of stuff. The 2.8L is more reliable than the 1.8T so you do the math on which fits you better.
