Default 97-99.5 mileage question?

So thinking about buying a 97-99.5 1.8t. If i do, im going to put a k04, gt2x, or even a gtrs upgrade in it. but these days when you buy an audi that old it also comes with alot of miles. would 120xxx or even 130xxx miles still be safe enough to upgrade?

Yes, its pretty much fine as long as the compression is still good and the car is in pretty fair shape. If they PO has kept up on the maintenance and all is well, mod away.

^like he said, good maintenance, have at it...

Edit: hold out for a 99.5 quattro, you won't regret it...

I have a '99 with 145,000 miles on it. I've been driving it since it had 92,000 miles, and I haven't really noticed an increase in required maintenance over that span. Still drives well. It has it's electrical problems (dead cruise control, dim dash panel illumination, etc), but that's to be expected.

If you know when the timing belt was replaced, you'll need to start thinking about replacing it again 75-90,000 miles after that (the dealer says it's good for 105k, but they recommend changing it out at 90k). The dealership quoted me $1200 for all the repairs associated with that.

A. Best model, ever... face lift, and AEB engine. The AEB engine is more easily tuned, the face lift just looks better.

B. I plan on selling mine soon

Actually, its harder to tune the AEB/058 because its a narrowband setup with no MAP sensor. The AEB head is the better and more desirable head though, due to the port size. But if he is only planning on going with an Elim as his final power goal then it doesnt matter much unless he is planning on a custom tune, or wants to rock a mafless setup, in which he'd want an 06A car.

Just planning on beating my dads 04 a8 which wont be to hard. My buddy has a 92 galant vr4 which is making roughly 300 whp right now and want to get him in my sights to. He says an A4 would never beat him. Hes only running mid 13's right now. So maybe a gt3071r with a GIAC tune who knows. Before buying the car i want to figure out what i want to do first.

I hate people like your friend. A basic elim setup will walk him. **** there are probably some k04 cars that would hang with him lol.

The gt3071r, is that just a bolt on also like the k04 or no? And say i upgraded to a gt3071r with GIAC tune (91 oct) new forge 007 DV and a test pipe. So im roughly going to be running what maybe 275 whp? Is that a good set up, would i need more? I read the newie a4 guide book and it described everything pretty good. i just need to talk with some one now about it.
